Advisory

A note with CVSS 7.4 for component BC-FES-CTL was released by SAP on 09.01.2024. The correction/advisory 3386378 was described with "[CVE-2024-22125] Information Disclosure vulnerability in Microsoft Edge browser extension (SAP GUI connector for Microsoft Edge)" and affects the system type SAP GUI / Frontend.

A workaround exists, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

The vulnerability addressed is information disclosure within SAP GUI / Frontend.

Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for ‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.

Risk specification

Microsoft Edge browser extension SAP GUI connector for Microsoft Edge allows an unauthenticated attacker to access confidential data.

Solution

Upgrade to version 3.0 "SAP GUI connector for Microsoft Edge" or current versions of Microsoft Edge (118.x, 119.x) will update the extension automatically.  Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "The extension by default uses the settings: Site access - Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit: “On all sites”. As a workaround in the settings of this browser extension one can restrict the "Site Access" setting to "On specific sites" only. This requires the end user to create an allowlist containing only the domains, which shall be used for out-of-the-box SSO from SAP GUI for Windows into Microsoft Edge.".

The advisory is valid for

  • SAP_GUI_EDGE_CONNECTOR 1.0
