SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for
vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.
SAP Note 3112710
was released on
11.01.2022 and deals with
"[CVE-2021-42067] Information Disclosure vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP and ABAP Platform" within ABAP.
We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve
medium potential for exploitation
in component BC-CCM-MON.
According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.
Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code.
Since SAP uses an explicit authorization model, an authority checks must be coded in order to be executed. If an
explicit check is not coded, all users have access.
This type of vulnerability not only exists in SAP standard it also exists in customer coding. Check your custom
developments for vulnerabilities that pose a risk to your systems. SecurityBridge helps
vulnerabilities before they are implemented in production.
Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from
parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for ‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.
Risk specificationThis note has been re-released with updated 'Correction instruction' information. An attacker authenticated as a regular user can use the S/4HANA dashboard to reveal systems and services which they would not normally be allowed to see.
The affected functionality has been extended with the authorization object S_RZL_ADM, so that only users with display activity 03 can start the Web Dynpro Application and those users with extra change activity 01 can make changes. Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "As a workaround you can either: Withdraw the authorization to start the Web Dynpro Application. This is withdraw authorization S_START with value "GRMG_JWS" and "GRMG_AWS_SETUP_TABLE". or Disable the service for the Web Dynpro Application. This is disable services "GRMG_JWS" and "GRMG_AWS_SETUP_TABLE" in transaction SICF.". The suggestion may be considered, as a workaround or compensating mitigation. We recommend installing/applying the correction wherever possible and as soon as possible. Base your decision on whether or not to apply the patch on your companies and systems risk perspective and consider the provided CVSS 4.3 score.
