Advisory

A note with CVSS 8.8 for component BC-CST-WDP was released by SAP on 10.08.2021. The correction/advisory 3057378 was described with "Missing Authentication check in SAP Web Dispatcher" and affects the system type Kernel.

A workaround exists, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

The vulnerability addressed is code injection within Kernel.

Risk specification

This note has been re-released with updated 'Support Package & Patches' information. SAP Web Dispatcher does not perform any authentication checks for functionalities that require user identity. This could allow an attacker with network access to authenticate to the system behind the Web dispatcher with any user.

Solution

The correction ensures that the authenticity of the client is checked correctly.  Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "As a workaround the client certificate handling of the Web dispatcher can be disabled. However this would disable certificate based authentication to the system.".
