Advisory

On 10.11.2020 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within SAP ERP Client for E-Bilanz.

SAP Note 2971112 addresses "[CVE-2020-26807] Incorrect Default Permissions in SAP ERP Client for E-Bilanz 1.0" to prevent insecure installation defaults with a medium risk for exploitation.

A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process, the team suggests.

Risk specification

SAP ERP Client for E-Bilanz 1.0 sets insecure filesystem permissions on installation, allowing an attacker on the machine to change files in the installation folder.

Solution

The issue has been fixed by removing default and unnecessary filesystem permissions from the installation folder after the installation of the SAP ERP client for E-Bilanz 1.0 Patch-Level 12.  Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Reduce the filesystem permission in the installation folder to the executing user and remove unnecessary write permissions".

The advisory is valid for

  • EBILANZ 100
