The advisory for BI/BO platform adresses a "[CVE-2020-6278] Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform (BI Launchpad and CMC)". SAP Note 2912708 was released on 14.07.2020 and should be implemented during part of maintenance. The implementation demands a downtime. Component BI-BIP-INV has a medium risk of exploitation, according to the manufacturers security and response team.

BI Launchpad and CMC in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform allows an authenticated attacker to embed mailicious scripts in the application while uploading images, which gets executed when the victim opens these files, leading to stored XSS.
SAP Business Intelligence Platform now checks uploaded files against a list of allowed filetypes and MIME types to prevent this type of attack And the good news are: a workaround exists, too! This was suggested by the SAP security experts: "Cross-site scripting/request forgery filter engine on IDS/IPS/firewall systems. "
