Advisory

The advisory for BI/BO platform adresses a "[CVE-2020-6219] Deserialization of Untrusted Data in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform (CrystalReports WebForm Viewer)". SAP Note 2863731 was released on 14.04.2020 and should be implemented during part of maintenance. The implementation demands a downtime. Component BI-RA-CRV has a hot news risk of exploitation, according to the manufacturers security and response team.

Following the SAP Security Advisory team, a workaround does not exist.

Risk specification

This note has been re-released with updated information - Crystal reports web form viewer allows an attacker with basic authorization to perform deserialization attack in the application, leading to a code injection. An attacker could thereby control the behavior of the application.

Solution

The data between server and client has now been encrypted to ensure secure information transmission. This ensures that data is no longer tampered during deserialization.

SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence suite is an analytics platform allowing SAP customers to make better decisions based on their business data. SAP BI is a module meant for producing business insights and expands its power in combination with HANA DB and also exists as BW/4 HANA. Due to processing sensitive business data, the Data security is of utmost importance.
